No question about it.

One novel that I would recommend to anyone and everyone is My Sister's Keeper, by Jodi Picoult. Yes, yes; I realize that this book is often discussed and is already all the rage, but, unlike some other hyped-up books I know, it deserves a chance. Yes, there is a movie version of this book. But NO, the movie is not better than the book. The book is still worth the read, despite the lure of a mental vacation that most movies provide.

My Sister's Keeper follows the life of a young teen fighting for medical emancipation so that she won't have to keep providing for her sister. The novel is chock-full of poignant thoughts. One such example?

"There is way too much to explain - my own blood seeping into my sister's veins; the nurses holding me down to stick me for white cells Kate might borrow; the doctor saying they didn't get enough the first time around. The bruises and the deep bone ache after I gave up my marrow; the shots that sparked more stem cells in me, so that there'd be extra for my sister. The fact that I'm not sick, but I might as well be."

MSK provoked strong emotions, especially with its dramatic ending. I felt intrigued, overjoyed, disbelieving, bleak, humored, and humbled. This novel delivered a strong, lasting message that I pondered restlessly days after finishing it. So - put the remote down! - and take the time to read through this "beautifully crafted novel." - People
